SteamShort: From Game Trailers to Ready-to-Publish Shorts
An AI-assisted workflow that discovers Steam games, turns their trailers into narrated vertical videos, and schedules approved content across social platforms. I built it to experiment with automated video production while keeping control over the final edit.
- 2–5 minutes
- Typical processing time per video
- Around 1 cent
- Production cost per video
- 3 platforms
- YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, and TikTok
Problem
Turning a horizontal trailer into a short involves finding suitable scenes, checking pacing, researching the game, writing narration, editing audio, and reframing the video.
I wanted a system to automate these steps and make it easy to test different edits.
Solution
I built SteamShort to discover games daily and download up to three trailers per selected game. AI analyzes scene screenshots, while a separate algorithm checks pacing to help select and assemble the clips.
Using game information, scene descriptions, and available Steam and Metacritic reviews, it drafts narration, generates a voiceover, adjusts the source audio, and creates a vertical video.
I can change clips, edit the script, and rebuild the video before scheduling it through Buffer.

- Scene selection: AI content analysis combined with pacing checks.
- Video production: Clip assembly, narration, audio adjustment, and vertical reframing.
- Editing controls: Review clips, regenerate or edit scripts, and rebuild videos.
- Publishing: Schedule approved videos through Buffer.
- Comment assistance: Draft replies across platforms, with direct YouTube replies and copy-and-paste replies for Instagram and TikTok.
Video Example
Results
- Videos typically process in 2–5 minutes, excluding selection and review.
- Parallel batches produce four or five drafts to review and schedule.
- The workflow could be adapted to podcasts, interviews, webinars, and long talks, with selection logic tailored to each format.
As of October 2026, the channels had approximately 58,000 cross-platform views in the preceding 30 days and over 100,000 total YouTube views.
